So as you can see it’s got just about everything you could want from a high end wireless router. About the only thing it’s really missing is 450 Mbps over wireless, but most people wont miss that speed anyway, and it does manage a full 1 Gbps on the wired connection, so if you ever really need a lot of speed, there is always an ethernet cable.

One of the stand out features of the ASUS Black Diamond is the 2 USB slots. Printers are a popular device to hook up to wireless routers, as are external hard drives. With 2 USB slots, you have the option of connecting both devices at the same time, increasing the functionality of the wireless router. And even if you don’t have a use for 2 USB slots just yet, it’s a nice feature to have for the future. The ASUS Black Diamond also comes with some fairly good user interface software for getting those USB connected devices running.

Beyond that, the ASUS Black Diamond has all the basic wireless router functionality, like a good QoS interface to give bandwidth priority to gaming, for instance, that you would want from a wireless router. And of course dual band is there as well, for connecting your other devices, like Wi-Fi enabled TVs.

All in all, the ASUS Black Diamond is a really solid contender in the high end wireless router market.

It has 450 Mbps of wireless speed, as well as 450 Mbps of speed on the second, 5 GHz band of the dual band. No USB slot, and only 5 reviews at Amazon, but if the deal is right this would make an excellent wireless router.

ASUS (RT-N13U/B) Wireless-N 300

Another wireless router, this time the ASUS (RT-N13U/B) Wireless-N 300, is slated to go on sale at 3:45 PM PST. This one is a budget wireless router, already listed at 55.24, so whatever the black friday sale price ends up being, this wireless router is going to be a real steal. It has 1 USB slot, but no dual band and only 54 Mbps for wireless bandwidth. Likely a very good deal if you don’t need bandwidth, but otherwise you might want to try something with a higher bandwidth throughput.

Besides these wireless routers there are a few external hard drives on sale, which would go well with a wireless router with USB slot, as well as a whole bunch of laptops going on sale. There are also a few mystery items, so who knows, one of them could be a wireless router.

The Buffalo Technology N300 is very similar to the N600 above, the only real difference is that the N300 lacks the dual band that the N600 comes with. Crucially, it includes the same large external antennas that the N600 has, which is a big part of the N600′s impressive range.

So if you don’t want to pay for dual band then don’t buy dual band. The N300 is a great wireless router, just without dual band.

So as you can tell, the big thing missing from the Linksys E2000 is a USB slot. D-Link DIR-655 Review

So the obvious feature missing, right off the get-go, is dual band. It’s a feature that a lot of wireless routers are now coming with to support the growing number of devices that are now able to connect to a home network, like TVs. It’s a great feature to have if you like your tech, but not essential just yet. If you like the D-Link DIR-655, incidentally, but cant live without dual band, the D-Link DIR-825 is what you’re looking for.

Beyond a lack of dual band, however, the D-Link DIR-655 has all the essentials, like a USB slot and 300 Mbps over wireless, that you need in a wireless router.
