RT-N56U if you’re trying to find it on the compare wireless routers page) is a feature rich wireless router, and one of the better ones from ASUS. It gives you plenty of options, and is a wireless router ideal for a handling a lot of connections from different people and devices, all at once.

Here are the basic specifics.

Wireless Speed: 300 Mbps

Port Speed: 1 Gbps

Dual Band: Yes

USB Slots: 2

ASUS Black Diamond 600 Review

So as you can see it’s got just about everything you could want from a high end wireless router. About the only thing it’s really missing is 450 Mbps over wireless, but most people wont miss that speed anyway, and it does manage a full 1 Gbps on the wired connection, so if you ever really need a lot of speed, there is always an ethernet cable.

One of the stand out features of the ASUS Black Diamond is the 2 USB slots. Printers are a popular device to hook up to wireless routers, as are external hard drives. With 2 USB slots, you have the option of connecting both devices at the same time, increasing the functionality of the wireless router. And even if you don’t have a use for 2 USB slots just yet, it’s a nice feature to have for the future. The ASUS Black Diamond also comes with some fairly good user interface software for getting those USB connected devices running.

Beyond that, the ASUS Black Diamond has all the basic wireless router functionality, like a good QoS interface to give bandwidth priority to gaming, for instance, that you would want from a wireless router. And of course dual band is there as well, for connecting your other devices, like Wi-Fi enabled TVs.

All in all, the ASUS Black Diamond is a really solid contender in the high end wireless router market.

If you want to see how the ASUS Black Diamond compares to other wireless routers, head over to the compare wireless routers page.

If you have been holding off on buying a wireless router, there are a couple fantastic wireless router black friday sales that you may very well want to take advantage of.

Wireless Router Black Friday Sales

Here are a few of the wireless router black friday sales coming up on Amazon.

TRENDnet 450 Mbps Concurrent Dual Band

At 1:45 PM PST the TRENDnet 450 Mbps Concurrent Dual Band is going on sale over at Amazon. The current price is 119.99, marked down already from 199.99, so you will be able to get a great deal on this wireless router. This looks to be a great wireless router. It has 450 Mbps of wireless speed, as well as 450 Mbps of speed on the second, 5 GHz band of the dual band. No USB slot, and only 5 reviews at Amazon, but if the deal is right this would make an excellent wireless router.

ASUS (RT-N13U/B) Wireless-N 300

Another wireless router, this time the ASUS (RT-N13U/B) Wireless-N 300, is slated to go on sale at 3:45 PM PST. This one is a budget wireless router, already listed at 55.24, so whatever the black friday sale price ends up being, this wireless router is going to be a real steal. It has 1 USB slot, but no dual band and only 54 Mbps for wireless bandwidth. Likely a very good deal if you don’t need bandwidth, but otherwise you might want to try something with a higher bandwidth throughput.

Besides these wireless routers there are a few external hard drives on sale, which would go well with a wireless router with USB slot, as well as a whole bunch of laptops going on sale. There are also a few mystery items, so who knows, one of them could be a wireless router.

If you want to keep an eye on the various black friday deals going down for electronics, you can do that over at the Amazon Black Friday Deals in Computers page.

And of course there will no doubt be many online retailers who sell through Amazon offering wireless on various black friday sales throughout the day. If you have had your eye on a particular wireless router, you might want to check out the pages for those wireless routers and see what’s available. If you want some recommendations, you can check out the best wireless router page to find a few good ones.

There are a couple of different metrics that are important for judging wireless routers on, but an important one that many people overlook is wireless router range. Wireless is a great technology when you have a great signal, and a rather poor technology when you have a poor signal. Getting a good signal, then, is important.

Wireless Router – Long Range

Here are some of the features to look for from long range wireless routers.

External Antennas - This isn’t always an accurate way to judge wireless router range, but generally, wireless routers with external antennas tend to get better range. External antennas are, on average, bigger and more powerful than the internal variety.

Multiple Antennas - When it comes to wireless router range, two antennas is better than one, and three antennas is better than two. Again, it’s not always accurate, because two powerful antennas would likely do a better job of giving you long range than three weak antennas, but it’s a good metric to help you sort through the wireless routers on the market.

Best Wireless Routers – Long Range

Here are a few of the best long range wireless routers.

Buffalo Technology N600

When it comes to range, there are few wireless routers with better range than the Buffalo Technology N600. The two large external antennas are directional, meaning you can point them wherever you like to maximize the long range capabilities of the router.

This both maximizes the maximum range of your wireless network, but more importantly, the distance at which you will get a strong signal is greatly extended, which is the most important part of a long range wireless router.

D-Link DIR-655

The D-Link DIR-655 is another excellent long range wireless router. Three external antennas, rather than two gives you plenty of power to get to the far corners of your house.

In fact D-Link claims that the DIR-655 has a full 6 times greater range than the average wireless router. I’m not sure how much stock you can put in that, but even if it’s half true, it’s still an impressive increase in range.

Buffalo Technology N300

The Buffalo Technology N300 is very similar to the N600 above, the only real difference is that the N300 lacks the dual band that the N600 comes with. Crucially, it includes the same large external antennas that the N600 has, which is a big part of the N600′s impressive range.

So if you don’t want to pay for dual band then don’t buy dual band. The N300 is a great wireless router, just without dual band.

If none of these wireless routers are quite right for you, you can find more to look at over at the compare wireless routers page.

Assuming you have the Xbox Wireless Network Adapter, you are all ready to connect wirelessly to the Xbox Live network. Just as soon, anyway, as you get a good wireless router to ensure that you get the best gaming experience possible.

Xbox Live Wireless Router

There are a couple features to look out for when shopping around for a wireless router to play on Xbox Live.

Dual Band - One of the best features of the wireless adapter for the Xbox is that it allows you to utilize the dual band that comes on many new wireless routers. So you can use the standard 2.4 GHz band that all routers come with, and if you wireless router has dual band, you can use the new 5 GHz band as well.

High Bandwidth - It goes without saying, but more bandwidth is always better when it comes to gaming. It’s not that gaming takes up a lot of bandwidth, but that all the other things that wireless routers get used for, like downloading, do take up a lot of bandwidth.

XBox Live Wireless Router Reviews

Here are a few wireless routers ideal for use with the Xbox.

D-Link DGL-4500

When it comes to gaming wireless routers there aren’t many that are better than the D-Link DGL-4500. It has everything that you want from a wireless router, but the stand out feature is the Gamefuel feature.

Gamefuel is a little like the QoS that most wireless routers come with, but more sophisticated. It allows to fine tune exactly how much bandwidth each process gets. So you can allocate a given amount of bandwidth to services like VoIP, internet browsing, downloading and crucially, gaming. So when you are gaming you can allocate the majority of the bandwidth to gaming and not have to worry about high pings. And it comes with dual band too.

Buffalo Technology N600

If you wireless router is not located close to your Xbox then you may end up having a problem with signal strength. That lack of signal strength can result in slower speeds and large amounts of lost data, both of which can ruin a gaming experience.

But the Buffalo Technology N600 has you covered there. It gets great range from the two external, directional antennas, making it an ideal Xbox Live wireless router for when the wireless router and the Xbox are not close to each other. It also has the standard features, like dual band, that you need in a wireless router.

ASUS Black Diamond Dual Band Wireless-N 600

The Black Diamond Dual Band Wireless-N 600 is another great gaming wireless router, this time from ASUS. It comes with dual band, first of all, so that second, 5 GHz band is available if you want it.

What make this wireless router from ASUS an attractive Xbox Live wireless router, however, is the good QoS settings available to the user. They’re not as sophisticated as the Gamefuel that you find on the D-Link above, but they are certainly good enough that you can optimize the gaming experience by limiting the amount of bandwidth available for other uses like browsing and downloading.

See how these wireless router compare over at the compare wireless routers page.

There are a couple of different uses for a wireless router, but one of the most common is to use a wireless router for your home. There are other places to use a wireless router, like a small office, but most wireless routers end up in homes.

Best Wireless Router for Home

The best wireless router for homes have a few features that you should look for.

Speed - Speed is always an important factor when it comes to wireless routers. This is especially true now, when most homes have all kinds of devices, like laptops, smartphones and W-Fi TVs are all connecting to those wireless routers.

Range - Depending on how big your house is, range will be more or less of a problem. If you have a big house then you will need a wireless router with good range, to reach every corner of your house.

Dual Band - If you have a modern console gaming system, or a TV with Wi-Fi capabilities, then you should definitely consider a wireless router with dual band, which will make it easier to connect your gaming consoles and Wi-Fi TVs.

Wireless Routers for Homes

Here are a few good wireless routers for the home.

D-Link DGL-4500

If you have a gamer in your house, the best wireless router for you will be something like the D-Link DGL-4500.

The D-Link DGL-4500 has what D-Link calls Gamefuel, which is like QoS on other routers. It allows you to allocate bandwidth, based on what that bandwidth is being used for. So you can devote 80 percent of the bandwidth to gaming, for example, so that your gaming experience doesn’t suffer.

Belkin N600

If you want a wireless router that wont cost too much and will give you all the features you need, the Belkin N600 is a good choice. It has just about everything that you would expect from a high end wireless router, like fast speeds and features such as dual band and a USB slot, but costs surprisingly little.

The one thing that is missing is 1 Gbps port speeds. So if you use a cable to connect to your wireless router, rather than a wireless card, you might want to look elsewhere. But otherwise, the Belkin N600 is a great wireless router that wont cost a whole lot.

Buffalo Technology N600

For big houses where range is important, you need a wireless router that will be able to deliver a strong signal to every corner of the house. The Buffalo Technology N600 is such a wireless router.

The two big external antennas can be pointed in whatever direction you like, which helps to get bandwidth and wireless signal the places in the house where it is most needed.

But like most mid-range wireless routers, it is missing a few things. But if they are the things you don’t need anyway, well then you are in luck.

Here are the basics.

Wireless Speed: 300 Mbps

Port Speed: 1 Gbps

Dual Band: Yes

USB Slots: No

Linksys E2000 Review

So as you can tell, the big thing missing from the Linksys E2000 is a USB slot. Now for some people that may be a deal breaker, but if you don’t care about USB slots and just want a wireless router that will sort out your wireless signals and not do fancy stuff like connect to a printer, well then the Linksys E2000 is a great wireless router for you.

And it actually is a great wireless router, because besides the lack of a USB slot it has everything you could want. 300 Mbps is more than most people are ever going to need, and the 1 Gbps ethernet ports ensures that if you do ever manage to need more than 300 Mbps, you can hook your computer up via ethernet and you will have it.

The dual band, on the other hand, will take care of any fancy new, Wi-Fi enabled home entertainment system that you have. Plus it is extremely easy to set up. You probably wont even need the CD if you know a thing or two about wireless networks.

And all that for a very reasonable price. So the bottom line is that if you don’t care about a USB slot, then don’t pay for one and pick up the Linksys E2000.

Find the latest price on the Linksys E2000 at Amazon.

And if you aren’t quite convinced, see how the Linksys E2000 stacks up over at the compare wireless routers page.

The wireless router market is always evolving, and the top rated wireless router today may be overtaken by a new and improved model tomorrow.

But there are a few wireless routers that manage to stay up near the top for quite awhile, just because they are that good.

Top Rated Wireless Router

A few of the top rated wireless routers.

Cisco-Linksys E4200

The top rated wireless router for awhile now, and probably quite a while to come, is the Cisco-Linksys E4200. It takes the top spot because it has just about everything you could want from a wireless router, including a USB slot for plugging in external devices directly to the network, dual band for your other, Wi-Fi enabled devices, like TVs, and plenty of bandwidth on both the wireless and the ethernet ports.

Part of what makes it truly popular, however, is that it is built to last. This is not a cheap wireless router that is just going to break on you in a year and need to be replaced. This is the kind of product that you can depend on. And the price reflects this. It’s not a low price, as far as wireless routers go, but then you wont have to be buying a new wireless router in a year either.

D-Link DIR-655

It would be difficult to put together a top rated wireless routers page without including the D-Link DIR-655. It’s a bit older than the E4200, and it shows because it is missing a notable feature, dual band.

But with that said, this wireless router has been immensely popular for years for a reason. And it is immensely popular, garnering just about 2,000 reviews on Amazon.

So it is missing dual band, but that doesn’t mean it’s a dinosaur either. It has a USB slot for connecting printer and external hard drives, and plenty of bandwidth on both the wireless band and the ethernet ports. If you want top rated, but aren’t interested in dual band, the D-Link DIR-655 is probably a better choice than the E4200.

Find the latest prices for both the D-Link DIR-655 and the Cisco-Linksys E4200. And head over to the compare wireless routers page to see how both routers compare to the competition.

There are a couple of different ways that you can shop for a product like a wireless router, but one good way is to look at wireless router comparisons. By getting an unbiased look at how two different wireless routers stack up against each other, you will have a much better idea of which wireless router is right for you.

Wireless Router Comparisons

We here at Wireless Router Reviews believe that comparisons are actually one of the better ways to do your wireless router shopping, which is why we put together the compare wireless routers page.

As you can see from that screenshot, you get to compare wireless routers by a number of different features. Not pictured are columns for the port speed as well as dual band.

You can also click on each of those column headers to sort the list by that particular feature. In the picture above, the list has been sorted so that all the wireless routers with the highest wireless speed are at the top, but you could just as easily click on the “Brand” column header and find all the different wireless routers that are made by a particular company, if you prefer one wireless router brand to another.

One feature the compare wireless routers page that we are particularly proud of, however, is the ability to refine your sorting of the wireless router list. So if you wanted to find the Netgear router with the highest wireless speed, for example, you could sort the list by clicking on “Brand,” and then hold down shift and click on “Wireless Speed.” What that would do is sort within each brand by the wireless speed. So all the fastest Netgear routers would be at one end of the list, and all the slowest would be at the other.

Of course you wouldn’t have to stop there. You could click on more column headers while holding down shift and refine the list even further, until you found the perfect wireless router for you.

So if you believe, like us, that comparing wireless routers is a good way to find the best wireless router for you, then head over to the compare wireless routers page and start comparing.

There are a lot of new features to be found on wireless routers, but the best metric for judging wireless routers is always going to be speed. Because everything else being equal, you want a fast wireless router.

Fast Wireless Router

Keep in mind that there is more than one speed on a wireless router.

Wireless Speed: One of the most important speeds on a wireless router is always going to be the wireless speed.

Port Speed: The other major speed on a wireless router is the port speed. You may not use the ports as much as the wireless part of the router, but it’s still important.

Dual Band Speed: Besides the 2.4 GHz band that you find on wireless routers, many also come with a second band, or frequency, which is the whole idea of dual band. The speed of this second, 5 GHz band matters too.

USB Speed: Some wireless routers now come with USB ports too. For now, wireless routers only come with USB 2.0 ports, but sometime soon the new and improved USB 3.0 will be found on wireless routers, which will greatly increase the speed of that USB port.

Best Fast Wireless Routers

Here are a few of the fastest wireless routers around right now.

Netgear N900

The Netgear N900 is one of the fastest wireless routers that you will find. It’s got it all. First, the wireless speed is a very fast 450 Mbps, which is 150 Mbps more than most other wireless routers out there right now.

Second, the Netgear N900 has the port speed too. It gives you a full 1 Gbps of port speed, whereas many wireless routers only come with 100 Mbps of port speed. You might not need those ports, but if the time comes when you do, you might be grateful for that extra speed.

Third, the Netgear N900 also has a full 450 Mbps on the second, 5 GHz band, which is great if you have a device like a Wi-Fi TV that uses that second band. If you want fast, you cant do better than this. Check out the latest price on the Netgear N900.

NETGEAR N750

The Netgear N750 is another very fast wireless router from Netgear. Like the Netgear N900 above, it gives you a full 450 Mbps to work with over the main wireless band, the 2.4 GHz band.

Unlike the Netgear N900, however, the Netgear N750 only gives you 300 Mbps on the second band of the dual band, the 5 GHz band. This is still very fast, and most people will be hard pressed to use that entire 300 Mbps at any one time, but the Netgear N900 is faster in this regard.

Over the ethernet ports, however, the Netgear N750 provides a full 1 Gbps, which is plenty of bandwidth for just about anything, should you find yourself in need of those ethernet ports. Find the latest price on the Netgear N750.

Buffalo Technology N450

The Buffalo Technology N450 is another very fast wireless, this time from Buffalo Technology. It is one of the few wireless routers currently on the market that boasts 450 Mbps over wireless, and is a serious contender for fastest wireless router because of that.

Where the Buffalo Technology N450 falls short, however, is dual band speed, which is a big 0 because the Buffalo Technology N450 does not have dual band. If you are looking for the fast wireless router but don’t care about dual band, the Buffalo Technology N450 is a fantastic choice.

And on the ethernet ports the Buffalo Technology N450 does not disappoint. 1 Gbps makes them a useful fallback option when the wireless speeds just wont cut it. Find the latest price on the Buffalo Technology N450.

Find out how these three wireless routers compare against the speeds of other wireless routers at the compare wireless routers page.

The D-Link DIR-655 is not, strictly, speaking, the best wireless router that D-Link makes, in terms of features and technology, but the sheer amount of positive reviews that the D-Link DIR-655 get is what gets it promoted to the top of the heap as the best D-Link wireless router.

Here is the essential info.

Wireless Speed: 300 Mbps

Port Speed: 1 Gbps

Dual Band: No

USB Slots: 1

D-Link DIR-655 Review

So the obvious feature missing, right off the get-go, is dual band. It’s a feature that a lot of wireless routers are now coming with to support the growing number of devices that are now able to connect to a home network, like TVs. It’s a great feature to have if you like your tech, but not essential just yet. If you like the D-Link DIR-655, incidentally, but cant live without dual band, the D-Link DIR-825 is what you’re looking for.

Beyond a lack of dual band, however, the D-Link DIR-655 has all the essentials, like a USB slot and 300 Mbps over wireless, that you need in a wireless router. Features like the 1 Gbps of port speed are a nice touch too if you need the extra bandwidth for transferring large files between computers on the network.

Another thing that stands out about the D-Link DIR-655 is the three external antennas. They look fancy, and give you a good boost in range too.

The bottom line is that this is an immensely popular wireless router, and with good reason. Head over to Amazon to find the latest price on the D-Link DIR-655.

And if you want to see how the D-Link DIR-655 compares to the competition, you can do that over at the compare wireless routers page.
